senate elections
The libs are spinning the victory too far. (See I do listen to Rush)
the 33 Senate races were in states that are somewhat more liberal than the rest of the country.
Nationwide Kerry got 48.5% and Bush got 51.5% of the votes the two of them received.
In those 33 states Kerry received 49.7% and Bush got 50.3%. That means you would expect the Democrats to do better.
In the 17 states and DC without senate races, Kerry got just 45.1% and Bush got 54.9%.
I really do think this means it will be tougher for the Dems for the next two election cycles.
In 6 states, the Republican candidate beat Bush's percentage. one of them was Indiana where the Democrats didn't even run anyone against Lugar. Amazingly, that wasn't the best state for Republicans. The best state was Maine where the arch conservative Olympia Snowe beat Bush's numbers by 32.9%.
The other states Republicans did well were RI, MS, TX, and MD.
OK, now onto the good news.
The average amount that the Dems improved was 6.3% and the mean improvement was 6.8%.
The biggest states that the Republicans won were Texas and Tennessee. The Dems won the other 12 biggest states with elections.
One last piece of triva.
There are 4 republican senators from New England and just one Republican congressman. Chris Shays is a Christian Scientist.
